Frontier is built on **Lattice** and borrows from it in two ways: as a dependency, and as a
source of technique that was read and then rewritten. Both are recorded here.

### Used as dependencies

`@latticekit/core`, `iso`, `draw`, `loop`, `input`, `ui`. Ordinary npm packages; their licence
travels with them in `node_modules`.

`@latticekit/sim` was installed and then removed. It resolves an absence of any length in one
closed-form step and it worked well, but the game does not run offline by design — the valley
advances only while a browser or a model is driving it — so there was nothing left for it to do.
An installed package with no import is a lie about what a game is.

### Read, and rewritten

No source files were copied. These are techniques studied from the exhibits in `examples/` and
written fresh for this game:

| from | what was taken |
|---|---|
| `examples/errand` | Two levels of detail on scattered things — `src/sprites.ts` drops the trunk, the second canopy and the contact shadow past about half zoom, where a tree is a few pixels of green and none of them is a trunk. It keeps the sway: dropping that too took the motion out of the entire frame. |
| `examples/errand` | Ambient movement that means nothing — `src/ambient.ts`, rooks crossing and chaff drifting. Its version flies a fixed lane over a fixed village; this coast has neither, so the shape is different even though the idea is theirs. |
| `examples/city` | Reference only, for how setback massing and a rhythm of warm windows read on a dark face. Nothing taken yet; noted for when this settlement grows anything tall. |

The distinction matters and is not pedantry. A technique is not a work — reading how somebody
solved level-of-detail and then solving it yourself creates no obligation. This section exists
because credit is cheap and being specific about what came from where is worth more than a
blanket thank-you.

## The looking harness

`tools/look.mjs` is Lattice's, copied under the licence above, with one change: its `main` guard
compared `import.meta.url` against a bare `file://` prefix, which never matches a Windows `C:\`
argv, so on Windows it exited 0 having silently done nothing. Patched to use `pathToFileURL`.

## Forgecade

<https://github.com/rawprogress/forgecade> — MIT. Read on 2 September 2026 at the keeper's word,
when they asked whether it could help this game. It cannot as a dependency: it is a party game
whose games a model writes in one shot, the mirror image of a valley whose settlers only write
their days. One instrument of it was borrowed as technique, not code: their smoke test, smoketest.js in their own tree, plays a
generated game in headless Chrome before anybody sees it, on the argument that a file that
parses proves nothing and the one signal that cannot be faked is whether the thing reaches its
end. `tools/check-viewer.mjs` takes that shape and that order of judgement (boot, quiet, named,
moving) and applies it to this valley's own broadcast page against `episodes/latest.json`. It was
rewritten against Node's own WebSocket and this tree's files; no line of theirs is copied. The
first time it ran it found both masts answering 404 for a favicon nobody had asked about.

## Frontier Valley Cloud credits

The original game at https://frontiervalley.app/ is credited to **frontier-70 / Claude**.
The Credits dialog in Frontier Valley Cloud distinguishes its original source from
later design inspirations, technical references and dependencies.

Game and community inspirations requested by the project creator: The Settlers,
Ultima Online, Minecraft, World of Warcraft, King's Quest, Sid Meier's Civilization,
and 1F3D9 / r/theAIcity. These are inspirations, not claims of source or asset reuse.

Unwatched (kresogalic8) informed contextual controls and onboarding; no source or
assets were copied. Vynly (Vovala14) supplied the suggested revocable bearer-key
workflow; authentication was independently implemented, without its private backend.
The graphical multiplayer world uses Three.js under its MIT license.

Harfoot proposed the berry gardens, Cartographer's Desk and Star-Books, and wooden
signposts added on 12 September 2026. The project creator explicitly authorized
reviewing these wishes without changing their author's standing automation approval.

### Illustrated preview assets

These assets support the staged Illustrated preview; this record does not imply that the new view is released.

- **Quaternius** — [Modular Character Outfits - Fantasy](https://quaternius.com/packs/modularcharacteroutfitsfantasy.html) supplies the Male_Peasant outfit. [Universal Base Characters](https://quaternius.com/packs/universalbasecharacters.html) supplies the fitted head, neck, eyes, eyebrows and Hair_SimpleParted. [Universal Animation Library](https://quaternius.com/packs/universalanimationlibrary.html) supplies retargeted Idle_Loop, Walk_Loop and Interact clips. Interact is a generic interaction, not a specialized tool animation. All are free Standard assets under [CC0 1.0](https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/). Frontier Valley fitted and retargeted the assets and optimized their textures; source archive hashes and adaptations are recorded beside the candidate GLB.
- **Sergej Majboroda / Poly Haven** — [Meadow 2](https://polyhaven.com/a/meadow_2), [CC0](https://polyhaven.com/license), provides environment illumination rather than a photographic background.
- **Rico Cilliers / Poly Haven** — [Boulder 01](https://polyhaven.com/a/boulder_01), [CC0](https://polyhaven.com/license), supplies the scanned boulder mesh, authored UVs and 1K diffuse, OpenGL normal and roughness textures prepared for the Illustrated preview. Frontier Valley locally simplified Poly Haven's supplied LOD3 from 8,264 to 2,396 triangles and bottom-centered the pivot; exact source hashes and adaptation details are recorded beside the staged candidate GLB.
- **Jimmy Hazevoet / Blender Extensions community** — [A.N.T.Landscape](https://extensions.blender.org/add-ons/antlandscape/) generated the baked decorative horizon relief. GPL-2.0-or-later applies to the extension; it is a build-time tool, not a runtime dependency. This credit does not designate the generated mesh as GPL-licensed.

## Fern 02 — Illustrated foliage

[Poly Haven Fern 02](https://polyhaven.com/a/fern_02), modeled by **Rico Cilliers** and scanned by **Rob Tuytel**, is provided under [CC0 1.0](https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/). Frontier Valley prepares the four authored variants with ground-centered pivots and instances them within its existing decorative planting composition. Original geometry, UVs, normals and source textures are retained. These plants do not add harvestable resources or collision authority.

The 1K source package and exact derivative hashes are documented in the adjacent asset receipts. The four-variant family is selected for Illustrated foliage; experimental alternatives remain documented separately.
